Steve Kistler, founder and winemaker of Kistler vineyards
for 37 years, has established Occidental vineyard dedicated to the production
of world-class pinot noir from the Freestone-Occidental vineyards. The 7500
case state-of-the-art winery sits on a ridgetop next to the Bodega Headlands overlooking
the Pacific Ocean. It is owned and operated by the Kistler family. There are four vineyard sites on Occidental
Station, a vineyard designate Occidental Highlands, two from the Bodega
Highlands, and a Sonoma Coast. The vineyards are among the coldest and
latest ripening vineyards in the area and are chosen for their ability to
achieve full ripeness and still maintain low sugar levels. As with all
Kistler wines, they are here today and gone tomorrow. So don't wait.
This is a chance to build a vertical from the beginning.
"Readers who can find the 2014 should not hesitate. It is
every bit as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel.” Antonio Galloni
Vinous Media
“With the vines
really starting to come of age at the time of the magical 2014 vintage in Sonoma,
Occidental hits pay dirt with an incredibly strong foursome of new releases.”
