http://www.bedfordwines.com/main.asp?request=SEARCH&search=SOTER

Tony Soter, a fixture in the Napa Valley for over 20 years consulting for Araujo, Niebaum-Coppola, Shafer, Spottswoode, Viader and Dalla Valle before retiring from consulting to concentrate on his own vineyard, Etude, which he started in 1982 producing high-end Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Blanc. In 1997 he purchased the 240 acre Mineral Springs Ranch in his native Oregon, sold Etude in 2001, then producing 9000 cases per year to Beringer. Mineral Springs is now home to 30 acres of Pinot Noir which was planted in 2002. In 2006 two acres of Chardonnay were planted which are devoted entirely to his Method Champenoise sparkling wine production. In addition to the wines from his home vineyard he also produces wines from vineyard sites located throughout the Northern Willamette Valley. The Estate wines are focused on the unique qualities of a single vineyard, the North Valley wines represent the vineyards of the region, mostly blends from a handful of the best sites they can access, and occasionally a single vineyard wine produced with the same focus on quality and artisan traditions as Soter’s Estate wines. North Valley Vineyards is a Partnership between Tony & Michelle Soter, along with winemaker James Cahill, and Director of Sales & Marketing, Brian Sypher, representing a combination of deep, collective experience, and genuine passion. All of the production facilities and hospitality buildings are located on the Mineral Springs ranch.

90 POINTS
AND UNDER $18

"At Castello di Volpaia, a dedicated family has created outstanding wines and preserved an ancient town." Mitch Frank Wine Spectator

                                       Volpaia

Village, Family, Winery-The Castello di Volpaia was built in the 11th century as a
fortified village on the Florence/Siena border. In 1250 Volpaia become an important
part of Chianti and one of the area's most illustrious families. They were Scientific
Instrument makers and friends of Leonardo da Vinci. Their instruments are still on view
at the Science museums and Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, as well as the Adler
Planetarium in Chicago. The family took their surname from the village itself and
throughout the centuries dedicated themselves to the arts and winemaking.
Volpaia is the highest-elevation winery in Chianti with it's vineyards situated at the
1300-2100 foot level. They are committed to organic farming and the wine is
fermented in two cellars situated in the heart of Volpaia. It is then aged in cellars
beneath the ancient village buildings such as the Church of San Lorenzo, Commenda
, (another large church) and in the original church located on Via Castellana.
After aging and bottling, it is left to rest in the cellars below Palazzo Canigiani
where the dark and controlled temperature allows the wine to blend and develop
 its unique characteristics.
